The University of Connecticut Department of Extension developed this App as a resource for consumers ready to discover locally grown products and experience Connecticut agriculture. The App is designed as a tool of the CT 10% Campaign, which invites consumers to pledge to spend ten percent of their food and gardening dollars on locally grown products. The App includes a Discover tool where users can find out information about upcoming Events, Season s Top Ten, and agri-tourism Trails (such as a farmers market trail, or artisan cheese trail). Content for these elements is continuously updated on buyctgrown.com a clearinghouse of information about local agriculture maintained by UConn Extension and CitySeed, a project partner based in New Haven, CT. Through the Track tool, users that have taken the 10% pledge can track how well they are meeting that commitment, and share their progress with Facebook friends. The Communicate tool seeks to build an online community through the Live Local Facebook group, inviting users to post pictures from their local food and agriculture experiences around the state. The App is geared toward users in Connecticut. The Live Local App won first prize in the 2015 UConn Extension App Challenge.
